Scar Revision

Scar revision is a cosmetic or reconstructive surgical procedure that aims to improve the appearance of a scar or reduce its size, texture, or discoloration. The procedure may be performed on any area of the face and neck where scarring has occurred.

The technique used for scar revision will depend on the type and severity of the scar, as well as the patient's individual needs and goals. Common techniques include surgical excision, laser therapy, dermabrasion, or injectable treatments such as fillers or corticosteroids.

Surgical excision involves cutting out the scar tissue and then closing the wound with sutures, which may result in a less noticeable scar. Laser therapy uses a focused beam of light to remove the outer layers of skin, promoting the growth of new, healthy tissue. Dermabrasion involves the use of a rotating tool to gently remove the top layers of skin, revealing smoother, more even skin underneath. Injectable treatments such as fillers or corticosteroids can be used to reduce the appearance of raised or hypertrophic scars.

After scar revision surgery, patients will typically need to follow specific post-operative instructions to ensure proper healing and minimize the risk of complications. This may include wearing compression garments, avoiding strenuous physical activity, and keeping the incision site clean and dry.

While scar revision can significantly improve the appearance of a scar, it is important to note that scars cannot be completely erased. However, with the help of Dr. Klimczak, patients can achieve a more aesthetically pleasing and less noticeable scar, which can help to boost self-confidence and improve overall quality of life.
