Cheek Augmentation
Traditionally, strong cheekbones have been considered a sign of youth and beauty, giving a heart shaped appearance to the face. As we age, the fullness in the cheeks from gravitational descent of soft tissues and bony remodeling can lead to a deflated and less contoured appearance.
What is Cheek Augmentation?
Cheek augmentation is a popular cosmetic procedure that helps to enhance the shape and contour of the cheeks. This procedure involves the use of surgical implants, fat grafting or using non surgical injectable fillers to add volume and definition to the cheeks. Cheek augmentation can help to create a more youthful and vibrant appearance, as well as balance out the facial features for a more harmonious look.
How is Cheek Augmentation done?
During a cheek augmentation procedure, the surgeon will typically make a small incision in the mouth to create a pocket over the cheek bone. Dr. Klimczak uses soft silicone implants and will place the implant over the existing bone structure of the cheek to enhance its size and shape, while lifting some of the soft tissue that has descended. The goal of cheek augmentation is to achieve a more balanced and harmonious facial appearance. Cheek augmentation is typically performed either under local anesthesia or IV sedation and is considered a relatively safe and effective procedure. The cheek implants will feel very similar to your natural bony structure.
Another surgical method to add volume to the cheeks involves removing fat from another part of the body and carefully transferring it to the cheek area. This is called autologous fat grafting or transfer. Typically the fat is removed from around the stomach, thighs or neck and reinjected in the areas of the face that have lost volume. Fat transfer in some patients may resorb (lose its volume) so future procedures may be needed to maintain the appearance.
Non-surgical Cheek Augmentation
Non-surgical cheek augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that enhances the appearance of the face without the need for invasive surgery. This procedure involves the use of injectable fillers, such as hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxyapatite, to add volume and contour to the malar and submalar area. The fillers are injected into specific areas to create a more defined and proportionate look. The procedure is relatively quick and painless, with minimal downtime and no incisions or scars. Results can be seen immediately after the procedure and can last for several months to a year, depending on the type of filler used.
Non-surgical cheek augmentation is a great option for those who want to enhance their face without the risks and recovery time associated with surgical procedures, however repeat injections are needed to maintain the appearance.
